This research article investigates stress, wellbeing, and burnout among dental professionals in the UK, specifically comparing those working in NHS versus private practices. The study used questionnaires to gather data from dental nurses, hygienists, and therapists, examining factors such as stress levels, quality of life, and burnout. Contrary to expectations, the research found no significant difference in stress, wellbeing issues, and anxiety between professionals in mixed NHS and private practices compared to those exclusively in private practice. The authors suggest that other workplace factors beyond the type of practice may contribute to mental health concerns in dental professionals. They emphasize the need for more research to identify these factors and address the growing crisis in dentistry, particularly regarding staff retention and access to care. Ultimately, they argue for change within the dental system to improve conditions for dental staff.
