This research article explores the use of oral rinse samples to identify metabolic profiles that can distinguish between individuals with severe periodontitis and those without the condition. The study utilized LC–MS/MS analysis to detect a substantial number of metabolites in oral rinses, successfully differentiating severe periodontitis patients from healthy controls based on these metabolomic signatures. Furthermore, the investigation found that the number of deep periodontal pockets was the clinical parameter most strongly correlated with these metabolic differences. The findings suggest that oral rinses offer a non-invasive method for metabolomic analysis that could potentially be used for screening individuals at risk of severe periodontitis.
