This research investigated how alterations in the L*, a*, and b* color parameters of anterior teeth affect perceived smile attractiveness. The study used digital images of a standardized smile, manipulated to vary tooth color, which were rated by dental and non-dental students. Results showed that lightness (L*) had the greatest impact on attractiveness, followed by a* and b*, with central incisors exhibiting the strongest effect. Evaluator background, sex, and age also significantly moderated perceptions of attractiveness, highlighting the importance of individual differences in esthetic judgments. The study employed DEMATEL and ISM to model the complex interplay of factors influencing tooth color perception.
