This research paper assesses the bonding capabilities of various universal dental adhesives to enamel, focusing on how their acidic composition affects wettability, surface changes, and bond strength. The study tested eight different adhesives, analyzing their impact on enamel's surface topography and chemical composition. The results indicated significant differences in how these adhesives interact with enamel, with certain GPDM and 10-MDP based adhesives demonstrating superior bonding performance. Acidic monomers derived from carboxylic acids were found to be more acidic, causing greater removal of calcium and phosphorus from the enamel. Ultimately, the study suggests that a complex interaction of the adhesive's components affects its performance, providing dentists with information for selecting adhesives that optimize clinical results. The data shows the importance of more than one singular acidic component when creating dental adhesives.
