The article outlines the development of evidence-based guidelines for integrating generative AI (GenAI) into university education at European University Cyprus (EUC). It details the process, involving a multidisciplinary task group, literature reviews, and consultations, to create a framework that balances the opportunities and risks of GenAI. Key areas addressed include academic integrity, ethical concerns, data privacy, and the need for clear communication and training. The framework aims to offer general directions adaptable to different disciplines, promoting responsible and effective AI use. EUC's experience serves as a model for other institutions navigating the integration of AI while upholding educational quality and ethical standards, with the intention of releasing their framework on a Creative Commons license. The iterative process involved refining the guidelines using GenAI and peer review by faculty and students.
