Influence of Edentulous Areas on Intraoral Scanner Accuracy

This in vitro study investigated the accuracy of maximum intercuspal position (MIP) recordings using three intraoral scanners (IOS) and an AI-based program, considering varying degrees of mandibular edentulism. Researchers assessed the trueness and precision of MIP location across five groups with differing numbers of missing posterior teeth (0-4). The study found that edentulous areas significantly impacted accuracy, with four missing teeth yielding the worst results. Primescan and Aoralscan3 IOSs performed better than i700, and the AI program's accuracy depended on the IOS used. The findings highlight the influence of edentulism on digital dentistry techniques.
